TOUR DE FRANCE STAGE 20 BETTING PREVIEW

The second successive day in the High Alps might be the shortest road stage of the Tour de France, but it might also be the hardest.

The riders, who all looked exhausted (including Pogaçar) after Friday's stage, will have to climb four mountains, four categorized climbs including the Col de Braus, Col de Turini, Col de la Colmiane and the final rise to Col de la Couillole.

  • Col de Braus: 10.2Km; 6.3%; 109 km to go
  • Col de Turini: 20.8Km; 5.7%; 73.5 km to go
  • Col de la Colmiane: 7.5Km; 6.9%; 37.5 km to go
  • Col de la Couillole: 15.8Km; 7.3%

The first ascent of the day already offers a chance for stage-hunting riders to get into the break on its 10km of winding uphill roads, as well as teammates of the top General Classification contenders hoping to assist their leaders later in the day or go for personal glory.

Stage 20 Favourites

With over 4600 meters of elevation gain and heavy legs from previous days, this stage will likely cause carnage.

Tadej Pogacar has virtually sealed his victory in the Tour de France with Friday's win. The Slovenian, shortly after the finish line, told journalists that he would like to have a quiet day on Saturday and let the breakaway go.

Hence, a breakaway has a great chance of going the distance unless Remco Evenepoel or Jonas Vingegaard decide to keep things tight, and challenge the yellow jersey on the final ascent once again.

Anyway, we go for climbers that still have enough energies to escape, riders that  are still not happy with their places on the GC and teams without a stage win.

Richard Carapaz is one of the most brilliant rider in the peloton, although he virtually attacked in every mountain stage. We expect more action from the Ecuadorian rider but previous days' fatigue could be a negative factor.

Looking for a long-shot?

Simon Yates has also been an active rider in the mountains. He finished third on Friday, one position behind Matteo Jorgenson. If they can recover enerrgies during the night, we should see both riders hunting the stage win on Saturday too.

Another GC rider's teammate that could go for the stage win is Adam Yates. His captain Pogaçar will surely let the Australian look for a win. Alternatively, he will stay with the yellow jersey and Joao Almeida will be inserted in the breakaway.

In that case, Mikel Landa will surely follow the Portuguese as the duo are battling for the 4th place.

Carlos Rodriguez, Giulio Ciccone, Santiago Buitrago, Steff Cras, Derek Gee and Felix Gall are other riders that will try to improve their Top 10 placement while looking for the win.

As for climbing specialists, we believe that Wout Poels, Egan Bernal, Romain Bardet, and Enric Mas are the ones to keep an eye on.

Other possible attackers are Laurens de Plus, Ben Healy, Guillaume Martin, Tobias Johannessen, Bob Jungels, Carlos Verona, Jai Hindley, Oscar Onley, Jan Hirt, and Louis Meintjes.Stage 20 - Tour De France 2024
