TOUR DE FRANCE STAGE 4 BETTING PREVIEW

Relatively short, and with a series of short, sharp climbs inland from the Channel coast, Stage 4 promises to be entertaining.

Six Cat.4 classified climbs will give the breakaway something to fight for and could see the polka-dot jersey change hands at the end of the day.

Furthermore, the final 25km along exposed roads around Cap Gris Nez could split the peloton if the wind blows from the north-west.

The Côte du Cap Blanc-Nez acts as the final categorised climb of the day. At 900 m long it’s the shortest of the day, but at an average gradient of 7.5% it will be probably the deciding point of the stage.  Some sprinters will be suffocated by it, and right after follows the dash to the line.

Stage 4 Favourites

Despite finishing fifth in Sunday's Stage 3, Fabio Jakobsen remains the favourite to win Tuesday's Stage 4, although Wout Van Aert - the current tour leader and runner-up in all three stages so far - is hot on his heels at 4/1.

Stage 3 winner Dylan Groenewegen, who snatched victory from van Aert in the tightest of photo finishes last Sunday, is another major contender.

Other pure sprinters that could be in the mix are Caleb Ewan, Jasper Philipsen and Danny Van Poppel while Peter Sagan, who finished third in Sonderborg last time out, is expected to be a serious contender both in case of general bunch sprint or reduced bunch sprint. His resurgence in the sprints has been really surprising.

Dark horses?

Mathieu van der Poel could make another bid for a stage win/yellow jersey combo but he will be closely guarded by the current Yellow Jersey, Wout Van Aert.

Alexander Kristoff and Jeremy Lecroq are another riders that can't be overlooked in this kind of stages while Michael Matthews, Alberto Dainese, Luca Mozzato, Hugo Hofstetter, Taco Van Der Hoorn, Matej Mohoric and Jasper Stuyven are our picks among the possible long-shots riders.

John Degenkolb and Edvald Boasson Hagen are both past their prime but could have one more glory day despite their age.
