TOUR DE FRANCE STAGE 4 BETTING PREVIEW
Stage 4 is another flat stage. Tuesday's stage will finish at France’s first purpose-built motor racing venue, the Circuit Paul Armagnac, with the final 3 kilometers taking place on the track.
There is only one classified climb and it’s hardly a climb at all. Côte de Dému goes up for 2 kilometres at 3.5%. The crest is situated 27.4 kilometres before the finish line.
The 800m home straight will almost certainly tee up a showdown between the Tour’s serious fast men.
Stage 4 Favourites
Jasper Philpsen won the first bunch sprint in impressive fashion, thanks to a perfect lead out by Mathieu Van Der Poel. He will be the odds on favorite to win back to back stages. Anyway, considering the odds, there will be little to zero value in backing Philipsen to win
His closest rivals in Bayonne were Phil Bauhaus and Caleb Ewan (we tipped him!). The former is very good at finding the right position while the latter has the whole team working for him.
Wout Van Aert looked brilliant in the last kilometer. He was competing with Philipsen but has been forced to stop pushing in order to avoid a probable crash. The Belgian finished 5th, one place behind Fabio Jakobsen, who started the sprint well behind the best positioned riders.
Mark Cavendish, Jordi Meeus, Dylan Groenewegen, Mads Pedersen and Bryan Coquard filled the positions from 6th to 10th, and will try to record a Top 3 placement on Tuesday.
Among them, Dylan Groenewegen is the sprinter who can take advantage of the absence of steep hills along the route, turns and roundabouts aprroaching the finish line. He looks more suited for this kind of finale.
Dark horses?
Biniam Girmay tried to obtain a good position with his lead out but failed to maintain it in the final turns. Without so many turns in today's stage, he can improve his 11th position.
The same applies for Alexander Kristoff, who can count on an interesting train. Luca Mozzato, Sam Welsford and Corbin Strong are other riders with Top 10 ambitions.
Peter Sagan and Danny Van Poppel didn't look fast enough to compete at this level..
