TOUR DE FRANCE STAGE 6 BETTING PREVIEW
The second day in the Pyrenees at the Tour de France will see four climbs on the menu, including the Tourmalet.
In the run-up to the Tourmalet, the most used ascent in the Tour de France history, the riders face the Côte de Capvern-les-Bains (5.5 kilometres at 4.8%) and the Col d’Aspin (12 kilometres at 6.5%). The latter summits with 77 kilometers to go.
The legendary Tourmalet is 17.1 kilometres long and averaging 7.3%. It summits with 47 kilometers to go and the summit is at an altitude of 2112 meters.
The final ascent is Le Cambasque, not the hardest climb in the world but very long - 16 kilometres at 5.4%. Moreover, in the final 5 kilometers there are a few ramps over 10% and it could see some action as all the riders will be extremely fatigued.
It could be another day for stage hunter but we can't exclude a GC battle after Jonas Vingegaard won over one minute on Tadej Pogaçar on Wednesday.
Stage 6 Favourites
Jonas Vingegaard has made a mark on Wednesday. He has been by far the best climber and opened a huge gap on Tadej Pogaçar and all other GC contenders as soon as he pushed. Regardless there is a breakaway or not, he will try to do damages in the final 5km as there are many steep sections.
The Slovenian arrived at this Tour with a non-optimal preparation due to an injury. Should he have good legs, we expect him to attack on the final climb after making the stage hard on the Tourmalet. Anyway, he might opt for a defensive tactics hoping his condition will improve in the coming weeks.
Jai Hindley took yellow with an impressive performance on Wednesday. The Australian has a 47 seconds advantage on Vingegaard and will probably defend his yellow jersey but we don't expect him to win again. No breakaways will be allowed and, event he looked brilliant, he is still a level below the top 2 contenders.
Among the GC contenders, we don't see any other rider able to beat the abovementioned athletes on a uphill finish like this.
Breakaway hopefuls?
Mattias Skjelmose is just shy of two minutes back on Hindley and the gap might allow him a bit of freedom for an attack on the final climb.
Tom Pidcock can take advantage of his descending skills on the descent of the Tourmalet. He is not viewed as a genuine GC contender, so the Yorkshireman can try to escape without been chased by UAE and Jumbo-Visma.
Neilson Powless and Victor Lafay had a quiet day on yesterday despite they are enjoying a good period of form. They were probably saving their legs for this stage, so we wouldn't be surprised to see both guys competing for the success.
Other breakaway candidates are Dylan Theuns, Simon Yates, Daniel Martinez, Ruben Guerreiro, Rui Costa, Matteo Jorgenson, Pello Bilbao, Thibaut Pinot, Adam Yates, Esteban Chaves and Guillaume Martin.
The likes of Giulio Ciccone, Wout Van Aert, Julian Alaphilippe, Emanuel Buchmann, Felix Gall and Valentin Madouas will probably need a rest after their effort on Wednesday).
