SOUTH AFRICA v SAMOA BETTING PREVIEW South Africa are playing catch up after their disastrous showing against Japan at Brighton last Saturday. In all fairness to Japan, which deserved the 34-32 victory, the Springboks looked tired during the game. Furthermore, South Africa were unusually ill-disciplined. They are enduring their worst calendar year in the professional era having lost four of five Test matches in 2015.
Meyer has reacted to the Japan defeat by making eight changes to the starting XV. Willie le Roux, JP Pietersen and Damian de Allende return in the backline. Eben Etzebeth also returns to the starting line-up while Adriaan Strauss starts at hooker and Duane Vermeulen comes in at No.8. Captain Jean de Villiers shifts to outside centre, while there are new halfbacks in Handre Pollard and Fourie du Preez.
Samoa defeated the United States 25-16 last week, but the victory was a short-lived celebration, knowing that they will face a tougher test.
Samoa coach Stephen Betham has made four changes from the side that saw off the US. He has brought in Mike Stanley at fly-half in place of veteran Tusi Pisi, who drops to the bench after an erratic kicking display against the Americans. They will call upon the services of an outstanding scrumhalf in Kahn Fotuali’i once again.
Samoa gave the Springboks a scare in their last World Cup showdown before eventually going down 13-5 at North Shore City in 2011. South Africa have won all eight Tests against Samoa overall, scoring 53 tries in the process.
