TONY BELLEW v BJ FLORES: BETTING PREVIEW
Having come up short in each of his previous two world title fights, Tony Bellew (27-2-1-KO17) finally won the WBC cruiserweight crown by stopping Illunga Makabu in May. Makabu sent the popular Liverpudlian crashing to the canvas with a huge left hand in the first round, but Bellew somehow recovered and ended the fight in the 3rd round with a nasty left hook. Bellew's only defeat came both in title fights as he was stopped by WBC Champion Adonis Stevenson in six rounds in 2013 and Nathan Cleverly beat him by majority decision for the WBO crown in 2011.
Bellew has good technical skills and likes to press the action. The Liverpudlian has developed into much more of a rounded boxer than when he first started out and had a reputation of being a knockout artist. He will also have the hometown crowd behind him once again this weekend, but his chin is somewhat questionable after Makabu knocked him down and Stevenson stopped him a few years ago.
BJ Flores (32-2-1-KO20) has only two professional defeats on his CV and has won eight of his nine fights since losing his shot at IBO champion Danny Green back in 2010. The Californian has an excellent chin and has never been stopped in his career – going the full 12 rounds in both of his previous world title fights. Flores has only fought 3 times in the last 3 years. He last fought in May and beat Roberto Santos by a six-round unanimous decision.
Flores is slightly shorter than the champion at 6-feet-2-inches tall. However, when it comes to reach, Flores has a decided advantage at 80 inches to Bellew’s 74. The "Peligroso" has a good jab that will be vitally important if he is to have any chance of winning on Saturday, and he does throw good combinations at times.
