TOUR DE FRANCE STAGE 1 BETTING PREVIEW

Stage 1 provides a chance for the sprinters to get their spot in the limelight with a 195km loop through Flanders, into Wallonia and back into Brussels. This stage is Belgian classics heartland and can be quite challenging, with narrow roads, little hills and street furniture along the way. It also features a few cobbled climbs and two, the Muur van Geraardsbergen and the Bosberg, are tackled in the first 50km.

The finish is quite tricky though with a series of sharp left and right turns in the final 5 kilometers. Plus the last 500m are around 5% gradient.

Dylan Groenewegen has established himself as the fastest man in the peloton this season. The Dutchman has won nine stages - including the opening two stages of Paris Nice - and the Three Days of De Panne this season. He won two stages in the Tour last year.

Elia Viviani has much to prove after a poor Giro d'Italia but the slght uphill finish into Brussels could suit him. Anyway, it will be a massive boost for him to have his A-list leadout with him - Mikael Morkov, Yves Lampaert, and Max Richeze.

Peter Sagan can never be ruled out of any sprint, especially an uphill sprint in a Grand Tour, although the Slovakian is not enjoying the greatest of seasons to date. He doesn't need a leadout, so we expect him to be in the mix in the final 500 meters.

Caleb Ewan comes high on confidence after winning two stages at May’s Giro d'Italia and the uphill drag to the line sure to play to his strengths. He has a fantastic leadout with him.

Alexander Kristoff may lack the finesse of Ewan and Groenewegen, but he has the experience and sprinting nous to make the most of any opportunity that comes his way.

Andre Greipel as been below his best this year, with just one victory since joining Arkea-Samsic.

The likes of Sonny Colbrelli, Matteo Trentin, Giacomo Nizzolo, Christophe Laporte, and Michael Matthews won’t be far off either.

Arnaud Demare, Mark Cavendish and Fernando Gaviria are not partecipating this year due to injuries and lack of fitness.
