TOUR DE FRANCE STAGE 1 BETTING PREVIEW
It's very hard to predict who will win the prologue. The course is completely flat and doesn’t offer any dangers, which should favor the brute force of the specialist rouleurs.
Tony Martin might find it too short for his liking. He is yet to win an opening time trial of Tour de France and wear the yellow jersey. The German has won three World Championship in a row but he only finished second last year. Last week, Martin became national time trial champion for the fifth time and looked to be in brilliant form.
Last year Tom Domoulin won the bronze medal at the world championships behind Wiggins and Martin. The Dutch rider is getting better and better and the shoprt distance may suit him.
Adriano Malori is another improving rider. He has recently won the national championship and earlier this season, the Italian won the prologue in Tirreno-Adriatico and finished second in the last time trail of the race. The Dutch rider Wilco Kelderman will also be very eager on doing well after winning the time-trial national championships last week.
Fabian Cancellara has won the opening time trial of the Tour five times in the past but he is no longer at his prologue-winning peak. Michal Kwiatkowski and Rohan Dennis are the new emerging stars of the discipline as shown at the Paris-Nice in March.
Tejay van Garderen is usually good against the clock but this distance may be too short for him to really excel. The same applies to the GC favoruite Chris Froome.
Geraint Thomas, Lars Boom and Jan Barta could be the dark horses of this stage.
No chances for other top riders as Alberto Contador and Peter Sagan.
