TOUR DE FRANCE STAGE 10 BETTING PREVIEW

The first mountain stage of the race brings the riders over just 167km from Tarbes to a brand new summit finish on the climb of La Pierre Saint-Martin, a new hors categorie climb. There are three Category 4 climbs along the way before the final climb - Cote de Bougarber (1.4km, 6.2%), Cote de Viellesegure (1.7km, 5.9%) and Cote de Montory (1.8km, 6.3%).

With a length of 15.3km and an average gradient of 7.4%, Col de Soudet is only slightly less steep than the Alpe d’Huez (it averages 8.1 per cent) but a kilometre longer, so it will be tough.

Chris Froome has been looking really good so far and he was the best among the "Fab 4" both on Mur De Huy and Mur De Bretagne. The Brit is the favourite n.1 for this kind of finale. At the moment, he seems to be pretty close to the level he had in the 2013 Tour.

This stage also could be ideal for Movistar’s tiny Colombian climber, Nairo Quintana, who possesses an uphill acceleration few can match. The Colombian has lost some time in the crosswinds in stage 2 and need to reduce the gap.

Contador and Nibali have both shown signs of weakness but it won’t be a big surprise to see them ride with the best in this stage and to limit damages.

Tejay van Garderen confirmed his huge progress and has had a perfect first week. He looked very strong in the first two climbing tests of the race and we expect him to have a better day than Nibali and Contador.

Joaquim Rodriguez was amazing on the Mur de Huy but failed to repeat de same performance on Mur de Bretagne. The final climb should be too long for his skills.

Dangerous riders could be Rui Costa, Julian Arredondo and Daniel Martin but they need to anticipate the favourites on the first kilometers of the Col De Soudet.

Bastille Day will give the French riders some extra motivation and it will be no surprise if the likes of Thibaut Pinot, Romain Bardet and Pierre Rolland try to win the stage. Furthermore, Warren Barguil is a pure climber that closed the first week of his first Tour in 14th place. He is the perfect dark horse for Tuesday’s Bastille Day.

We are also curious to see what Alexis Vuillermoz (winner on Mur de Bretagne) and Louis Meintjes can do in this stage. As to breakaway candidates, we mention Cristophe Riblon, Bob Jungels, Jean Cristophe Peraud, Simon Yates, Tony Gallopin and Ryder Hesjedal.

No chances, in our opinion, for well-backed riders like Mollema, Gesink, Uran and Valverde.
