Stage 11 of Tour de France on Wednesday is flat in profile, it’s also short in length at 162.5 km and that should lead to a sprint finish in Montpellier despite stages in this part of France can be hit by strong crosswinds, especially if the Mistral blows. TOUR DE FRANCE STAGE 11 BETTING PREVIEW
The first 60 kilometres of the stage feature two category 4 climbs. However, they will not play a major role in the back end of the stage. The final 10 kilometres of the stage is fairly simple, with a few technical parts inside the final 5 kilometres. The riders will take the final turn with 2200m to go. Then the 6m wide road only bends slightly to the left and the final 500m are completely straight. There is a very small 500m climb of around 2-3% just after the flamme rouge but the final 500m are flat.
The market sees this as a showdown between Cavendish and Kittel.
Mark Cavendish is perhaps the leading favourite for the win in Montpellier, and the battle for the green jersey is far from over. The Brit has won three of four bunch sprints. However, Mark Renshaw has gone home with illness, so Boasson-Hagen will be the final lead-out man for Cav.
Marcel Kittel is yet to hit top form but he is improving and his team Etixx-QuickStep are among the best in the echelons. He is the natural favourite in this kind of power sprint, especially as Max Richeze and Fabio Sabatini have learned how to be a bit more patient in the sprints.
Andre Greipel has yet to open his account at this Tour De France. The German has looked lacklustre so far, and it's hard to see him taking a stage in this year's Tour. He will be very pleased with the windy conditions as Lotto Soudal are extremely strong in the crosswinds.
Peter Sagan could be a little tired after his breakaway on Tuesday's stage but he always is a wise choice for the podium. He is skilled and if there are echelons, he will be in the first group.
Dylan Groenewegen, Bryan Coquard and Edward Theuns all have ambitions for a Top 3 place while Daniel McLay has proved he can compete with the big guns. He could be a dark horse or a good each-way selection.
Such a flat stage will be difficult for Alexander Kristoff who doesn’t have the speed and the form to compete with the top sprinters.
No chances for other spinters such as Cristophe Laporte, Sondre Holst Enger, John Degenkolb and Edvald Boasson Hagen.
