TOUR DE FRANCE STAGE 12 BETTING PREVIEW
The stage is 195K long and there are four climbs on the route. First a climb of 2nd category climb - Col de Portet-d’Aspet (4.3km, 9.7%) - then two 1st category climbs - Col de la Core (14.1km, 5.7%) and Port de Lers (12.9km, 6%) - while the finish is on the very hard Plateau de Beille (15.8km, 7.9%) which is one of the hardest climbs of the entire race.
After a successful breakaway on Stage 11 (we tipped Rafal Majka to win!), we expect GC contenders also fight for the stage win.
And if GC contenders arrive all together at the foot of the final ascent, it will be very hard for them to beat Chris Froome. The Brit has proved that he is in a class of his own and the way he distanced his rivals was truly impressive.
Anyway, Contador is known as a fighter and we won’t be surprised if they try to make the race hard while Nairo Quintana looks the only rider who can stay close to Froome if he decides to force the pace. If Quintana arrives with the Yellow Jersey on the summit, Froom could decide to let the Colombian win the stage.
Nibali is again showing signs of weakness and it's unlikely to see the Italian climbing with the best riders on the final ascent while Rigoberto Uran is clearly not in his best condition.
Thibaut Pinot nd Romain Bardet are not in their best moment while Purito Rodriguez lost a big chunk of time on Stage 11 and is not even on the fringes of the GC conversation anymore.
The longer distance is perfect for Pierre Rolland as he likes to go on the long-distance attacks on days with several climbs. On Wednesday Rafal Majka stole show for Tinkoff-Saxo and Michael Rogers could get his chance on Thursday's stage.
Ryder Hesjedal has had a too quiet race and we suspect he has red-circled this stage. The same applies to Julian Arredondo, who finished in the "gruppetto" on Wednesday's stage.
Robert Gesink deserves a mention while compatriot Bauke Mollema made a nice jump from the pack to pick up a few seconds on Stage 11. These two are marking each other and it could be a negative factor.
Tejay van Garderen fis a regular climber but he lacks in speed and it is almost impossible to see the American trying to distance his opponents.
Rafael Valls saved energy on Wednesday and could be one of the possible attackers of the first hour.
Others who will try to be in the break include: Ten Dam, Navarro, Kruijswijk, Peraud, Meintjes, Bakelants, Kudus, Adam Yates, Gautier, Fuglsang, Kangert and Izagirre.
