TOUR DE FRANCE STAGE 14 BETTING PREVIEW

Stage 14 should play into the hands of the sprinters. There are a trio of cat 4 climbs in the middle of the stage but it is mostly flat. The long, wide finishing straight is tailor-made for the pure sprinters who will love to get another chance to stretch their legs before they head into the mountains and turn in survival mode. Anyway, if the Mistral blows it will be a terrible slog and breakaways could have a chance.

All the sprinters are still in this race really with the exception of Trek’s Edward Theuns who crashed in the timetrial.

Marcel Kittel is slightly favourite as the last 3km is all straight. He will be looking for his second stage of the race after winning the uphill finish on Stage 4 into Limoges, while his compatriot Andre Greipel will be looking to open his account for this year’s Tour.

Mark Cavendish will be looking to attain his 30th stage win at the Tour in his career. The abandonment of Mark Renshaw will not be a major blow for the Brit as he hasn't used Renshaw in this year's Tour as he may have done in the past.

Peter Sagan, of course, should be in the mix. The Slovakian has already won two stages but he has been well beaten in all of the bunch sprints so far.

Alexander Kristoff won the peloton sprint for 4th on Stage 11 and has to be respected as well as the yound Dutchman Dylan Groenewegen, who has in his team Lotto Jumbo one of the best train of the Tour.

Michael Matthews, Bryan Coquard, Daniel McLay, John Degenkolb and Sondre Holst Enger are other contenders for a top 5 place should the stage finish with a bunch sprint.

Christophe Laporte have recorded top-10 finishes in four of the Tour’s five field sprints so far.

In case of high winds, classics riders like Greg Van Avermaet, Tony Martin, Stephen Cummings, Jasper Stuyven, Sep Vanmarcke, Fabian Cancellara and Geraint Thomas, as well as Peter Sagan, could cause a surprise at triple-figure odds.

Breakaway candidates could be Adam Hansen, Oscar Gatto, Chris Juul-Jensen and of course Thomas Voeckler.
