Tour De France Stage 17 Betting Tips, Predictions, Odds & Free Bets (Pont Du Gard - Gap - 24.7.2019)
- Written by David Bet
Beginning in Pont du Gard, Stage 17 of the 2019 Tour De France heads northeast, climbing its way toward the town of Gap at the foot of the high Alps. Will it finish with a sprint? Check out here our Tour De France STAGE 17 betting preview, best odds, expert tips on Winner & Head to Head, betting promotions & no deposit free bets.
The only concern for the GC leaders and their teams will be to reach Gap without suffering any crash and save the legs for the future days.
The Sentinelle offers the perfect launchpad for a winning move. It’s not particularly long or steep, but it’s close enough (just 8.5K) to the finish line. Sprinter with climbing ability are clearly favourites.
Peter Sagan could try to make the breakaway or wait the final kilometers, hoping for a bunch sprint.
Thomas De Gendt is an experienced breakaway specialist who won a similar stage eight in Saint Etienne. More attacks could come from Astana (Luis León Sánchez and Alexey Lutsenko), EF Education First (Simon Clarke and Tanel Kangert), AG2R La Mondiale (Tony Gallopin and Oliver Naesen), and UAE Team Emirates (Rui Costa).
We haven’t seen much of Greg van Avermaet so far this Tour and he is the sort of rider who can win a one-off day like this.
In the sprinter-that-can-climb category, we also have Sonny Colbrelli, Magnus Cort and Jasper Stuyven, any of which would be dangerous if they make it into the break.
The likes of Tony Gallopin, Edwald Bosson-Hagen or Alexis Vuillermoz both could do well on this finish.
Julian Alaphilippe would expect to stay in the yellow jersey for another day, with the three brutal days in the heart of the French Alps still to come.
Dark horses?
Fast descenders such as Vincenzo Nibali, Alejandro Valverde, Giulo Ciccone and Simon Yates could be the surprise packages of the day.

TOUR DE FRANCE STAGE 17 BETTING PREVIEW
Stage 17 is a transition stage. The day opens gently but soon begins its long, slow ascent toward the Alps, with the Intermediate Sprint coming just before the road really starts to grind towards the Category 4 Côte de la Rochette-du-Buis and the Col de Mévouillon. The route continues on predominantly flat roads to the foot of the Col de la Sentinelle. The 5.2 kilometres climb at 5.4% is crested inside the last 8.5 kilometres before the riders fly down to the finish line in Gap.The only concern for the GC leaders and their teams will be to reach Gap without suffering any crash and save the legs for the future days.
