- Written by David Bet
After the prologue in Stage 1, the riders hit the road on a flat 166-kilometer route that remains in the Netherlands. On paper, it suits sprinters but strong crosswinds can cause problems to the peloton. TOUR DE FRANCE STAGE 2 BETTING PREVIEW
Stage 2 is the first road stage of the Tour, a flat run from Utrecht to the North Sea coast in the province of Zeeland. It finishes almost literally out in the sea. It will be one of the flattest stages to the Tour and there will be no King of the Mountains jersey. The finale is very straightforward. Just before the 5km to go mark, there will be myriad of roundabouts but after the riders have taken two turns in quick succession just before the four kilometres to go mark, the road is completely straight and flat.
We expect sprinters suchs as André Greipel, Mark Cavendish, Alexander Kristoff, Peter Sagan, Bryan Coquard, Nacer Bouhanni and John Degenkolb to all fight for the win.
Due to Marcel Kittel’s absence, MarkCavendish is the fastest rider at the moment. The Brit will have Matteo Trentin and Mark Renshaw to do the final part of the lead out and he is heavy backed on all online bookmakers.
Anyway, Lotto-Belisol lead-out train is formidable and Andrè Greipel could take advantage of it. The German goes into the race with lots of confidence as he has recently dominated the sprints.
Alexander Kristoff prefers longer and harder stages but can't be ruled out. The Norwegian has won 17 out of 50 to date thus far in the 2015. Nacer Bouhanni is probably the only rider with the speed to challenge Cavendish and Greipel but he crashed heavily on last Sunday's French National Championships and he is far from his best condition.
Peter Sagan deserves to be mentioned even though this sprint doesn't suit him. John Degenkolb has taken over the role as lead sprinter from Marcel Kittel but we would be surprised to see the Giant-Alpecin rider beat Greipel and Cavendish on this kind of finish as he is not a pure sprinter.
Dark horses could be Ramunas Navardauskas and the French duo Bryan Coquard and Arnaud Demare.
One non-sprinter to watch is Fabian Cancellara. He is a strong finisher and if the Swiss somehow sneaks in for first or second, he would be the new yellow jersey thanks to time bonuses.
