TOUR DE FRANCE STAGE 20 BETTING PREVIEW

Stage 20 has the same distance as Stage 19, with two brutal climbs in the second half. The only difference here is that after the final climb up the Col de Joux Plane, the finish is a descent into Morzine.

These are the 4 categorized climbs on the menu:
  • Km 21.0 – Col des Aravis (1 487 m) 6.7 kilometre-long climb at 7% – category 2
  • Km 45.5 – Col de la Colombière (1 618 m)11.7 kilometre-long climb at 5.8% – category 1
  • Km 93.5 – Col de la Ramaz (1 619 m)13.9 kilometre-long climb at 7.1% – category 1
  • Km 134.5 – Col de Joux Plane (1 691 m)11.6 kilometre-long climb at 8.5% – category H

Chris Froome slid off on the descent from the penultimate climb of but he extended his overall lead from 3min 52sec to 4min 11sec after his previous closest rival, Bauke Mollema, also crashed and suffered even heavier losses. The Yelow Jersey was visibly sore on the podium after the stage, with a large bandage on his right knee. We expect him to have a defensive approach in this stage.

Movistar and Astana are two teams that have not yet won a stage in this year’s Tour De France and this is their final chance. Fabio Aru and Nairo Quintana don't look like they can make a huge gap over other GC contenders on the climbs, but they can take advantage of the technical descent to the finish.

How free Vincenzo Nibali will be from domestique duties is not clear and we should taking into account the fact that the Italian crashed on Friday, while Alejandro Valverde has looked like the strongest Movistar rider so far. Diego Rosa and Jon Izaguirre could be placed in the breakaway and will be free to look for a stage win.

Richie Porte also crashed on the same wet descent and faded on the final climb of Stage 19. Anyway, his hopes of finishing on the podium are all but over.

Adam Yates lost contact with his rivals on the climb to the summit finish at Saint-Gervais and has now fallen from third to fourth in the GC. The 23-year-old Briton has a 2'16" advantage over Louis Meintjes and his priority on Saturday's final mountain stage should be defending the best young rider's white jersey as he looked really tired.

Romain Bardet finally delivered a stage win for the French and might be worth a punt to repeat given his descenders skills. The same applies to Daniel Martin who climbed very well on Friday.

Other possible contenders could be Rafal Majka, Rui Costa, Jarlinson Pantano and Julian Alaphilippe (all from a breakaway) or Joaquim Rodriguez in case of no winning long breakaways. Ilnur Zakarin can be ruled out as the Russian is a poor descender. Chris Froome's team-mates will not have licens to attack.

If you are looking for long-shots Stephen Cummings, Georg Preidler, Damiano Caruso and Serge Pauwels could be the right names.
