TOUR DE FRANCE STAGE 5 BETTING PREVIEW
Tour De France Stage 5 has all the characteristics of a classic sprint stage and it should give the GC riders a small chance to relax. The finale has a technical sting in its tail. The riders will take a sharp right-hand turn with just 480m to go to get onto the 7 meters wide finishing straight, meaning that positioning is hugely important. It will probably be another windy stage and it could be an important factor. Riders will have a crosswind for most of the time until they turn into a headwind with 25 km to go. The wind will blowing against them until they turn into a crosswind less than 2km from the finish line and then there is again a headwind on the final 480 meters
Tony Martin should be able to defend his yellow jersey while Cavendish and Greipel are the two favourites to win the stage. With a headwind in the finale, it is very important to time have strong lead-outs. Etixx-QuickStep and Lotto Soudal clearly have the strongest trains in the race but Greipel has his lead out man Greg Henderson slightly injured after the crash in Stage 2 while Mark Cavendish came up short on Sunday's sprint when both he and Mark Renshaw made mistakes by going too early.
Riders like Sagan, Demare, Kristoff and Bouhanny will be ready to profit from every hiccups that Cavendish and Greipel will have. Sagan is back to his best form while Nacer Bouhanni is a great bike-handler and this finale could suit his skills. Alexander Kristoff hasn’t made a big impact yet in this Tour and will be determined to make something happen today while Arnaud Demare has a good top speed and could be in contention.
Outsiders? Bryan Coquard is fast but he usually suffers a lot when it comes to positioning while John Degenkolb doesn't look like he’s capable of winning a big bunch sprint.
