TOUR DE FRANCE STAGE 9 BETTING PREVIEW

The toughest slope of the day takes the shape of the Mur d’Aurec-sur-Loire. This 3.2 kilometres climb at 11% is crested at kilometre 36. The Côte de Saint-Just, a 3.6 kilometres climb at 7.2%, is crested 12.5 kilometre before the finish and will be the deciding point of the day. While this climb is likely to take the sprinters out of the equation, it may not be enough to eliminate a brave breakaway rider still going on his own.

After yesterday's powerful attack, which also netted him the yellow jersey again, Julian Alaphilippe is our favourite number 1 to win on Bastille Day.

Considering that this stage is awfully similar to stage five to Colmar (but that time the climb were longer), we could also expect a similar result, with Peter Sagan and Michael Matthews contesting the reduced sprint.

Other riders who performed well in Stage 4 and also contested the top spots of Stage 8 were Matteo Trentin, Greg Van Avermaet or Xandro Meurisse.

Other strong contenders are Sonny Colbrelli, Wout Van Aert, Maximilian Schachmann and Matej Mohoric.

Since it's Bastille Day, we also expect French riders to attack from the early kilometers: Tony Gallopin, Liliane Calmejane, Warren Barguil and Alexis Vuillermoz are our picks.

Other long shots?
Rui Costa, Alberto Bettiol, Luis Leon Sanchez, Oliver Naesen and Michael Valgren Andersen all deserve a mention.

We rule out GC contenders (including an in-form Thibaut Pinot) and pure sprinters (Groenewegen, Viviani & co.), the struggling Vincenzo Nibali and yesterday's hero Thomas De Gendt who should be super tired.
