VELASQUEZ v WERDUM: BETTING PREVIEW

Since arriving in the UFC, Cain Velasquez has won 11 of his 12 fights, with his only defeat coming when Junior Dos Santos sensationally knocked him out in the first round. Anyway, the Mexican get a revenge as he battered Dos Santos for 5 rounds to regain the title in December 2012 and then beat the Brazilian in their second re-match, via TKO, 10 months later. Velasquez has not fight since that night due to injury, so there will be some question marks about him heading into this fight.

Fabricio Werdum has reeled off five straight wins since returning to the UFC back in early 2012. He won the temporary belt by beating Mark Hunt last November. However, his chin was shaky in that fight, and he has been knocked out for by Jonathan Dos Santos. The Brazilian was the first fighter to stop the great Fedor Emelianenko via submission and he is a high-level Brazilian Jiu Jitsu black belt and is known for his lethal ground game.

If totally healthy, Velasquez is a relentless wrestler and has the best cardio in the heavyweight division. Werdum’s striking is really coming around but in order to beat the champion he has to knock Velasquez out on the feet, or submit on the ground. The Brazilian has several key disadvantages against Velasquez and enter this fight as underdog despite his recent improvements.
