MICHAEL VAN GERWEN v PHIL TAYLOR: Betting preview
Michael van Gerwen beat Simon Whitlock 11-3 in the 2nd round, never looking in doubt of reaching the quarter final. In the first round, MVG comfortably saw off Stephen Bunting with a 10-4 scoreline. The Dutch sensation, who claimed this title in 2015 and 2016, is bidding to extend his unbeaten run on the Winter Gardens stage to 13 matches. The world number one dropped just 31 legs in claiming this title 12 months ago.
Phil Taylor, a 15-time World Matchplay champion, swept Raymond van Barneveld aside in the previous round 11-3, scoring an average of above 102 and hitting 50% of checkouts. Prior to that, he made light work of a tricky opening tie against Gerwyn Price.
Recent head-to-heads between MVG and 'The Power' fall in the Dutchman’s favour, but Taylor did beat Van Gerwen in a Premier League match up this season and also ran him close in an 8-7 defeat at the Shanghai Masters.
