When is Dillian Whyte v Alexander Povetkin?

Dillian Whyte’s fight with Alexander Povetkin is the main event in this weekend’s boxing live from Fight Camp in Brentwood. There have been a number of fights already from the venue, but this is by far the biggest.

Taking place on Saturday August 22, it’s the headline fight of an exciting undercard, which sees Katie Taylor take on Delfine Persoon directly before. Whyte is expected to walk into the ring at around 10pm, with the fight live on Sky Sports Box Office. The full fight card ahead of Whyte v Povetkin is:

  • Dillian Whyte v Alexander Povetkin (WBC interim heavyweight title)
  • Katie Taylor v Delfine Persoon (Unified WBA, WBC, IBF, WBO, and The Ring female lightweight titles)
  • Luther Clay v Chris Kongo – WBO Global welterweight title
  • Jack Cullen v Zak Chelli
  • Alen Babic v Shawndell Tegel Winters

Whyte v Povetkin: Who is Favourite To Win?

Dillian Whyte is favourite with BetVictor, priced at 1/4 and having not tasted defeat since Anthony Joshua back in 2015. Povetkin drew in his last fight against Michael Hunter, when he was on the same bill as Whyte and Joshua in the big Matchroom event in Saudi Arabia.

He has previously beat David Price and more recently Hughie Fury, so has a history of beating Brits and is priced at 11/4 to take the win in this bout. The draw/technical draw can be backed at 22/1.

Tale of The Tape

Dillian Whyte is the younger, sharper fighter and has both the height and reach advantage over the Russian fighter. His record in more recent years also offers more impressive viewing, having won his last 11, while Povetkin has picked up one win in his last three.

He wasn’t at his best out in Riyadh late last year and Whyte will certainly be looking to expose him and pick up another knockout.

Our Dillian Whyte v Alexander Povetkin Tips

It’s going to be a big night of boxing, but a strange one too with no crowd to really get behind the fighters in what is a crucial fight for Whyte’s career.

We expect him to get the win though. The win by decision looks a good bet at 7/5 with Paddy Power, particularly given that four of his last five fights have been won on the judges scorecards.

Povetkin has only lost two fights, against Anthony Joshua and Wladimir Klitschko, with only Joshua having been able to knock him out. It would take some big hitting by Whyte for that to happen, and it’s also priced at 6/4.

The stoppage could be a possibility late in the rounds though, especially as training will certainly have been hampered by the circumstances we’re currently living in. Therefore if you’re looking at the KO/TKO markets, we’d back Whyte in Round 7-12 at 23/10 with Paddy Power
