FIFA World Cup Outright Winner Odds

According to betting odds offered by the best betting sites, Brazil are the favorite to win the 2022 World Cup while France and Argentina make the top 3. England is fifth in the betting, behind Spain and ahead Germany, Netherlands, Portugal and Belgium. Nine of the first 11 teams in the betting are European Nations.

World Cup 2022 Groups

Host nation Qatar is placed in the Group A. England have been draw in Group B with Iran, USA and Wales while the defending champions France have been drawn in Group D with Australia, Denmark, and Tunisia.

Group A

Qatar, Ecuador, Senegal, and the Netherlands

The host nation Qatar may be getting overlooked due to an automatic berth in the World Cup but actually they won the 2019 Asia Cup and finished third in the 2021 Gold Cup.

Netherlands return to the World Cup after they failed to make the tournament in 2018. The Oranje performed well at Euro 2021 and should scrape through this group.

Ecuador and Senegal will probably fight for the 2nd place. With plenty of European-based players Sadio Manè above all), the African nation could advance to the knockout stage.

Group B

England, Iran, USA, and Wales

England are hot favorite to win this group, despite their recent struggles in the Nations League, where the Three Lions failed to win a single game (against Germany, Hungary and Italy) and were relegated in League B. The mixed squad of young and talented players led by captain Harry Kane should be strong enough to finish top of the group.

Wales managed to qualify via the play-off, beating Ukraine on penalties. The Dragons are a tough nut to crack and will probably battle with USA, a team that has made huge improvements in the last few years.

Iran, led by well known players such as Taremi and Alireza Jahanbakhsh can't be ruled out.

Group C

Argentina, Saudi Arabia, Mexico, and Poland

Argentina are clearly odds-on favorite to top this group. the Albiceleste is likely to rely upon their greatest player, Lionel Messi, for the last time in a major tournament.

The Mexico-Poland opener will probably determine who follows in second. A draw will probably see one of these two teams advancing on goal difference at the end of the group stage (and Robert Lewandowski is expected to make the difference for the Poles).

Saudi Arabia will be more than happy to avoid finishing with zero points.

Group D

France, Australia, Denmark, and Tunisia

Led by coach Didier Deschamps and superstars Kylian Mbappe and Karim Benzema (the 2022 Ballon D'Or), France will start the defence of their World Cup title as one of the strongest team of the tournament.

Les Blues will face a stiff competition from Denmark, as they have been defeated by the Danes few months ago.

Australia and Tunisia come without any pressure and will not go down silently.

Group E

Spain, Costa Rica, Germany, and Japan

Spain and Germany are likely progress, and the order in which they do hardly matters, because the runner-up very well could earn an easier path to the semi-finals.

Anyway, Japan and Costa Rica have caused major upsets in previous editions and surprises are always around the corner. The national team of Costa Rica qualified from a group with Uruguay, England, and Italy back in 2014.

Group F

Belgium, Canada, Morocco, and Croatia

This group is arguably one of the toughest and most competitive. Belgium are favorites but the Red Devils usually underperform in major tournaments. Croatia’s golden generation has grayed and we are not sure they can mantain the same level we saw four years ago.

Morocco are underrated but have plenty of talent in their roster while Canada is a young side with a few great prospect. These two teamscould be the dark horses of the group and, possibly, of the tournament.

Group G

Brazil, Serbia, Switzerland, and Cameroon

Brazil are favorites to advance as top of the group by a mile, according to betting odds. Anyway, it will not be a walk in the park in our opinion.

Switzerland, who knocked out Italy in World Cup qualifiers, and Serbia will, in all likelihood, meet on the final matchday in an early elimination game but Cameroon can't be ruled out. The Indomitable Lions are not the best team by a tactical point of view but, physically, they are stronger than all the teams they will face.

Group H

Portugal, Ghana, Uruguay, and the Korea Republic

This is the most levelled group of the 2022 World Cup. All four teams have chances to pregress, despite the bookies see Portugal and Uruguay occupying the first two places in the standings.

Cristiano Ronaldo is past his prime but the Portugues team has many other talented players such as Rafael Leao and Rafa Silva.

Uruguay have veterans (Luis Suarez, Edinson Cavani) and youngsters (Federico Valverde, Darwin Nunez) while Heung Min Son can surely lead his national team to the knock-out stage.

Ghana are the 60th-ranked team in the world but can't be overlooked in this company.

FIFA World Cup Format

32 teams are divided into 8 grous of 4 teams each. All the teams in each group play one another once. The first two teams of each group advance to the knock-out stage.

Each group winner faces a runner-up from one of the other groups. Nations progress by winning their matches in normal time, in extra-time or via a penalty shootout.

From 2026, the format will change again. With 16 groups of three beginning the tournament proper, the top two progress to make a 32-team knockout bracket.
