France vs Morocco Betting Preview
France progressed to the last four with a 2-1 victory over England and were lucky to avoid extra time after Harry Kane missed the second penalty of the night. Prior to that, Didier Deschamps' men defeated Poland 3-1 in the last-16 round, bouncing back from a 1-0 defeat against Tunisia in the third group stage match. At that time, qualification to the knockout stage was already secured, courtesy of back to back wins over Australia (4-1) and Denmark (2-1) in the first two outings.
Morocco became the first African nation to reach the semi-finals at a World Cup after they beat Portugal 1-0 in their quarter final, courtesy of a header scored by Sevilla's striker Youssef En-Nesyri. Prior to that, they knocked Spain out of the tournament, winning the penalty shoot-outs after a goalless draw. In the group stage, the drew against Croatia (0-0) and beat both Belgium (2-0) and Canada (2-1). The Atlas Lions’ progress in Qatar has been built on a solid defence having conceded just once in five games.
France and Morocco have never faced off in a World Cup before. This will be the first encounter between France and Morocco since a friendly in 2007 that finished 2-2. Their only other clash this century was in 2000 when France ran out 5-1 winners.
Best Odds
The bookies have obviously installed France as heavy favoruites. Les Blues are 57/100 to win in 90 minutes with STS.co.uk. Morocco are 33/5 with VBet to shock the world once again while the draw is backable at 3/1 with Betfred.
Probable Line-Ups
France (4-2-3-1): Lloris; Kounde, Varane, Upamecano, Th. Hernandez; Tchouameni, Rabiot; Ou. Dembele, Griezmann, Mbappe; Giroud
France come into this match without any injury or suspension problems and Didier Deschamps is expected to name an unchanged line-up. Theo Hernandez is expected to start at left-back again, in place of his brother Lucas (injured), while Jules Kounde continues to be given the nod at right-back ahead of Benjamin Pavard. In midfield, Adrien Rabiot will be flanked the youngster Aurelien Tchouameni, while the likes of Ousmane Dembele, Antoine Griezmann and Kylian Mbappè will support Olivier Giroud up front.
Morocco (4-3-3): Bounou; Hakimi, El-Yamiq, Dari, Attiat-Allah; Ounahi, Amrabat, Amallah; Ziyech, En-Nesyri, Boufal
Coach Walid Regragui has a number of injury headache as captain Romain Saiss had to be stretched off in the win against Portugal due to a hamstring injury and is expected to miss out. West Ham’s Nayef Aguerd also missed the quarter-final but is pushing to start while Ajax Noussair Mazraoui is still sidelined. Back-up striker Walid Cheddira is suspended after his red card on Saturday, meaning that Youssef En Nesyri will be forced to play the whole game. Hakim Ziyech and Sofiane Boufal will flank the central forward. No changes are expected in midfield where the impressive Azzedine Ounahi will partner Sofyan Amrabat and Selim Amallah.
France v Morocco Predictions
France have conceded in each of their last six games at the World Cup but they have been impressive in attack, cortesy of a rejuvenated Olivier Giroud and the current top scorer Kylian Mbappè. Les Blues have scored two or more goals in all but one of their World Cup matches so far.As to Morocco, no opposition player has scored against them so far at the 2022 World Cup, with their only goal conceded coming via an own goal against Canada.
Morocco will have the whole of the African continent behind them and will fight till the end. We expect them to frustrate France with a solid defense and continuos pressure.
As a result, we back Morocco +2 in the Handicap betting market. The correct score might be a 1-0 France win or even a 1-1 draw (and we go for this long-shot).
With any yellow cards collected upto the quarter finals being annulled and no risk of missing the final, we expect plenty of yellow cards.
