Poland vs Argentina Betting Preview
Poland currently top the group with four points as they drew the opening match with Mexico and beat Saudi Arabia 2-0 last time out. They are one of only two nations who are yet to concede a goal after their first two group matches at the time of writing.
Argentina head into this pivotal game with renewed hope after defeating Mexico 2-0 to bounce back from their huge shock defeat at the hands of Saudi Arabia. Anything less than a win for Scaloni’s side would need them relying on Mexico and Saudi Arabia’s result to qualify
There are no recent direct encounter between these two teams. They have last met in 2011 when Poland won 2-1 in an international friendly in Warsaw.
Both teams will be looking for a win to go through as group winners, expecially Argentina as Lionel Scaloni's men could be knocked out of the competition with a draw.
Finishing first in this group is vital. The second-place team out of Group C will face the winner of Group D in the round of 16, almost surely France (who beat La Albiceleste 4-3 in a thrilling showdown at this stage four years ago).
In order to win the Group C, the Albiceleste need a victory and for Saudi Arabia to not make up a two-goal gap in goal differential. The draw could only get both Argentina and Poland through to the round of 16 if Saudi Arabia and Mexico play to a draw in the other Group C match.
A loss could advance the Poles, but they would need either a draw in the other Group C game or for Mexico to win and not make up the four-goal gap in goal differential.
Best Odds
UK betting sites see Messi & co heavy favorites for this clash. Argentina are 1/2 to win the match with Ladbrokes. (best odds at VBet). Poland are 73/10 with VBet, while the draw is priced at 16/5 with Bet365.
Probable Line-Ups
Poland (4-4-2): Szczesny; Cash, Glik, Kiwior, Bereszynski; Zielinski, Bielik, Krychowiak, Frankowski; Milik, Lewandowski
Poland boss Czeslaw Michniewicz has no injury concerns for this game and is expected to name an unchanged starting lineup against Argentina, with Arkadiusz Milik set to continue his partnership in attack with Lewandowski. Matty Cash, Kamil Glik, Jakub Kiwior and Bartosz Bereszynski ar eall expected to feature from the off in defense. Piotr Zielinski and Przemyslaw Frankowski are set to operate as wingers while Grzegorz Krychowiak could be joined in centre-midfield by seven-cap Birmingham City player Krystian Bielik.
Argentina (4-3-3): E. Martinez; Molina, Otamendi, Li. Martinez, Tagliafico; Fernandez, Paredes, De Paul; Messi, La. Martinez, Di Maria
Lisandro Martinez could retain his place and partner Nicolas Otamendi at centre-back while the likes of Nicolas Tagliafico, Marcos Acuna, Gonzalo Montiel, Nahuel Molina and Juan Foyth ae in contention for the full back spots. In midfield, Enzo Fernandez can be considered a regular starter after an impressive performance against Mexico. Leandro Paredes and Rodrigo De Paul are favorites for the remaining two berths. Up front, Lautaro Martinez should get the nod over Julian Alvarez once again and complete the front trio alongside Leo Messi and Angel Di Maria.
Poland v Argentina Predictions
Poland and Argentina will both be determined to come out on the winning side on Wednesday in order to avoid France in the last-16 round.
Argentina, who have progressed to the knockout rounds in 12 of the last 13 World Cup finals, are clearly not performing at their best but have the potential to break the rock solid Polish defense.
We back Argentina to record a narrow win in a hard-fought contest. The 2-1 correct score is the scoreline we recommend while Angel Di Maria is our favorite bet in the Anytime Goalscorer market.
Another interesting option is Bereszynski to be shown a card.
