Deontay Wilder vs Luis Ortiz 2 Betting Preview

Wilder was saved by the bell after getting caught in the 7th round of the first fight against Ortiz

Deontay Wilder (41-0-1) is fast-accumulating one of the best live records in modern boxing, with 40 KOs in his 41 wins as a professional and a draw against Tyson Fury. This fight will be a rematch of a past match in 2018 that saw Wilder win by technical knockout in the tenth. Since the first Wilder-Ortiz fight, Wilder had two bouts - the Fury fight and a guttural first-round stoppage of Dominic Breazeale. Should the American get the outcome he wants here, the path will be cleared for a rematch with Fury tentatively slated for February 2020.

Wilder is now emerging as the most powerful of all the current heavyweight boxers. He is also the younger fighter, and age, which is always a factor, tends to mean that much more in the heavyweight ranks. The Bronze Bomber usually catches opponenets with a flurry of giant hooks and uppercuts and ends fights with knockout finishes. He still has some technical flaws despite vast improvements in the last 12 months. Anyway, Wilder seems to be improving whereas Ortiz may struggle to hit the heights of the early rounds in their first encounter.

Ortiz remains one of the most technically gifted fighters in the heavyweight division

Luis Ortiz (31-1-2 NC) has a fair share of power, winning 26 of his 34 fights by knockout. His only loss came at the hands of Wilder last year, but the Cuban boxer wen very close to win the bout, having troubled the Bronze Bomber on a couple of occasions (almost flooring him in the 7th). This time round Ortiz vows to turn the tables on the American and finish things early. Since then, "King Kong" has recorded three straight victories, having knocked out Razvan Cojanu and Travis Kauffman before gets a points decision win over Christian Hammer earlier this year.

Ortiz brings sharp counterpunching skills, very good jabs, body shots and skilled footwork. But he is the smaller man in matchup, will have to work through and around Wilder’s reach. At 40, the peak may be behind him. Even last December, when he halted Travis Kauffman in the 10th round, he looked like he had slowed down considerably since the first fight with Wilder. Questions over the true age of Ortiz have dogged his career for the past few years with many onlookers believing he is much older than 40. Anyway, the Cuban had a very hard training camp ahead of the rematch and he still has the power to knock out his American opponent if the opportunity arises.
