2016 EUROVISION SONG CONTEST BETTING PREVIEW
Overall 42 nations will be entering the competition in Sweden since Mans Zelmerlow won the 2015 contest in Vienna with his song “Heroes”. This year there are two semi finals, one on 10th May and one on May 12th before the big occasion of the final of May 14th. From each semi final only 10 acts will qualify to the grand final. The Big Five countries (UK, Italy, France, Spain and Germany) and the host country (Sweden) will automatically get to the final. There is a big mix up in the voting this year too because now each country will have two sets of points. One will come from the professional jury of that country and the other will be from televoting.Russia are the overwhelming favourites to win this year's edition as Sergey Lazarev's "You're The Only One" really grabs you in the same way as Sweden's winning entry did last year. It should come as no surprise that bookmakers think he is most likely to also win Semi-Final 1 as well.
Ukraine was noticeably absent from Eurovision last year due to financial crisis. They have returned this year with a strong musical offering that would seem well placed on a Buddha Bar CD. Jamala is now second favourite and her song is split between English and the Crimean Tatar language.
France’s Amir - who is singing “J’ai cherche” which translates to “I have been looking for” - has received a lot of support in the last few weeks. His song is a mix of English and French lyrics and is very infectious and appealing.
Armenia’s Iveta Mukuchyan is most likely to stop Sergey from running away with Semi-Final 1 as "LoveWave” live performances has the bookmakers convinced that she could challenge for the victory. Odds are so tasty!
Australia appear to have a decent chance in this year’s running through Dami Im with the “Sound of Silence”, the same as reigning champions Sweden who have youngster Frans singing “If I were sorry”.
Israel has come to town well prepared, with a fully thought-through concept and a finely polished vocal. Hovi Star is one of those only-at-Eurovision artists—the song isn’t particularly strong, but his staging and his vibe are a fit for the Contest.
The United Kingdom are big outsider shots with Joe and Jake’s “You’re Not Alone” but the duo impressed critics with their first rehearsal. As consequence bookies have slashed their odds. e. The boys were selected in the national final organised by BBC and titled "You Decide" because the winner was selected entirely by the audience.
Malta's Ira Losco is gaining some popularity after looking very good in dress rehearsal. In our opinion, the song is over-produced and features repetitive lyrics.
Outside of the range, Italy's entry (Francesca Michielin - No Degree of Separation) is a potential contender for the podium. It has received over 10 million hits on Youtube!
Spain is bringing a fun song to the Eurovision stage. "Say Yay!" Is very upbeat song that invites people to get up and move but we don't expect it to make the top 5.
Latvia, with Justs, will probably be a certain qualifier for the final, as the powerful song ‘Hearbeat‘ is being delivered quite well. The song has been written by Aminata, who competed for Latvia last year, and her signature has been put on the composition for sure, as ‘Heartbeat‘ is a mysterious song with a nice beat to it.
Croatia have been missing for a few years but returns with its best chance of a maiden victory. That said their song, performed by a wacky looking Nina Kraljic, has a lot going on with drums, flute, bells and the proverbial whistles. It also lacks a chorus and finishes abruptly, so its position towards the head of the betting has to be questionable.
